Abstract The problem of women in their search for identity remains the main issue in various cultures of the world in general and Canadian literature in particular. As a feminist novelist, Atwood's novels deal with the conflict between identity and society where these are the major problems in Modern Canadian society. This study aims at pointing out the main factors that motivate women to search for their identity. In The Edible Woman, the attempt of Marian's fiancé to control her personality and the image of her friends as a stereotype woman makes her fears arise, feels estrangement, and loses control of herself. She passes through a journey of disorders until she can recover her identity. During her quest, Marian gains strength and is resolved to live her life to the fullest.
