This chapter provides an overview of translation and a clear view of the rules governing translation, including the structure of the sentence, conveying the semantics underlying proverbs and paying special attention to the cultural characteristics of the languages concerned. It also highlights the theory of functional purpose as it is related to both language and society. Society is characterized by being multicultural, and therefore it is one of the tools of the language of communication and communication between students and the rest of society. This research deals with other aspects related to social linguistics and functional theory. Moreover, it focuses on the theory of Scopus and its role in raising the position of the translator in this field. المستخلص باللغة العربية
يقدم هذا الفصل نبذة عن الترجمة و تقديم رؤية واضحة للقواعد التي تحکم الترجمة ، بما في ذلک بنية الجملة ، إيصال الدلالات الکامنة وراء الأمثال وإيلاء اهتمام خاص للخصائص الثقافية للغات المعنية , کما يسلط الضوء على نظرية الغرض الوظيفية کونها مرتبطة باللغة والمجتمع على حد سواء. فالمجتمع يتسم بأنه متعدد الثقافات، وبالتالي فهي أداة من أدوات لغة الاتصال والتواصل بين الطلاب وسائر أفراد المجتمع, کما يتناول هذا البحث الجوانب الاخرى ذات العلاقة باللغويات الاجتماعية والنظرية الوظيفية, و يرکز هذا الفصل أيضًا على نظرية سکوبوس ودورها في رفع مکانة المترجم في هذا المجال.
