Essentialism in Mais Al-othman’s Tho’lol (A Wart): An Ecofeminist Study

This paper attempts to analyze Essentialism as an ecofeminist approach in "Tho'lol", "A Wart” written by the Kuwaiti writer Mais Al-othman during the Iraqi occupation to Kuwait. Essentialism is a concept within the approach of Ecofeminism that seeks to highlight the connectedness between the environmental destruction and the female oppression in the selected novel that tells the story of the rape of a Kuwaiti girl by an Iraqi soldier during the Iraqi occupation to Kuwait which is in essence a rape to the whole country. Issues such as the social and familial oppression, unsupport and humiliation are represented. The present paper holds the view that violence against women is violence against the environment, and the degradation of women’s identity is the result of the destruction of the environment induced by wars.
تحاول هذه الورقة تحليل الجوهرية البيئية في رواية الکاتبة الکويتية ميس العثمان "ثؤلول" أثناء غزو العراق للکويت. تعتبر الجوهرية من مفاهيم منهج النسوية البيئية والذى يسعى إلى تسليط الضوء على العلاقة بين اضطهاد البيئة واضطهاد المرأه في رواية "ثؤلول" التى تقدم قصة حياه فتاة کويتية تم اغتصابها على يد جندي عراقي أثناء الاحتلال العراقي للکويت. لا تمثل الرواية اغتصاب فتاة کويتية فحسب ، بل اغتصاب البلد تحت الاحتلال العراقى. کما يتم عرض قضايا مثل القهر الاجتماعي والأسري ، وعدم الدعم والاذلال للمرأه المغتصبه. تبحث الدراسة في العلاقة بين المرأة والطبيعة و معاناة واستغلال المرأة وتدمير واسغلال البيئة والعنف ضد المرأة و البيئة .کما تشير الدراسة الى تدهور هوية المرأة العربية وکذلک هوية دولة الکويت بسبب الحرب
