المستخلص

This study aims at investigating the effect of storytelling as a strategy for developing writing skills among Iraqi tenth graders in Babil secondary school. The sample of the study consists of 30 students. They are randomly selected and assigned to experimental and control groups. The data used for the purpose of this study are collected over the course of one semester via pre-post test design for equivalent groups. The experimental groups are taught by using the adopted storytelling strategy, whereas the control groups are taught by using the conventional procedures as prescribed in the formal teacher’s guidebook. The researcher assesses the effect of storytelling as a strategy for developing story writing skills and the findings indicates that the experimental group outperforms the control group in the story writing skill tests. This is an indication of the fact that the storytelling strategy has a significant positive effect on students’ writings.
