The present research investigates the phonological and rhythmical realization of the most predominant line of foot verse, the iambic pentameter line. it discusses this meter as a system of versification, investigating its origins, its evolution as well as its flexibility. It also examines the nature and the boundaries of syllable as a rhythmic unit from the phonological and the metrical points of view. It also examines the nature of stress and its components, the different degrees of it, and the rules according to which a syllables can be allotted a specific degree of stress to achieve the alternation and the distribution of the weak and strong syllables the line require in order for it to be metrical. It discusses the tension between rhythm and meter
يتناول هذا البحث التحقيق الصوتى و الإيقاعي فى اکثر انواع شعر التفعيلة انتشاراً، وهى الشعر الأيامبي خماسيى التفعيلة کنظام لنظم الشعر. ويناقش الاصول التاريخية لهذا الوزن الشعري، و تطوره، و مرونته کقطريقة للنظم. کما يعرض البحث طبيعة المقطع الصوتى و حدوده کوحدة ايقاعية من وجهتى النظرالصوتى و الوزنية ، و کذلک طبيعة و مکونات النبر الصوتى و درجاته المختلفة، و القواعد التى يتم على أساسها تخصيص درجة معينة من النبر للمقطع بحيث يتحقق التناوب و التوزيع بين المقاطع الضعيفة و القوية والذى يتطلبه البيت الأيامبي حتى يصبح موزوناً. ويناقش البحث علاقة الوزن الشعري بالإيقاع اللغوي
