صفات الله تعالى من المباحث العقدية التي اضطربت فيها آراء الناس، وتعددت فيها أقوالهم.
وقد کان لها أهمية بالغة بالنسبة لسائر القضايا العقدية، فمن خلالها يتعرف الخلق على خالقهم معرفة صحيحة، إذ لا سبيل للمعرفة الصحيحة بالله تعالى إلا من خلال معرفة صفاته، کما أن معرفة صلة الله تعالى بالعالم لا تتأتى إلا عن طريقها.
لذا حظيت قضية الصفات الإلهية باهتمام علماء الإسلام، واحتدم الجدل بينهم حتى بلغ مبلغه، کل يحاول إثبات صحة مذهبه وفساد مذاهب الآخرين.
وقد نالت قضية الصفات الإلهية عند ابن حجر الهيتمي اهتماما بالغا، حاول أن يقرر من خلاله مذهب أهل السنة والجماعة ولا سيما الأشاعرة.
The attributes of God Almighty are among the doctrinal investigations in which people’s opinions were confused, and their sayings varied.
It was of great importance in relation to all doctrinal issues, through which people get to know their Creator correctly, as there is no way to have a correct knowledge of God Almighty except through knowledge of His attributes, just as knowledge of God Almighty’s connection to the world does not come except through it.
Therefore, the issue of divine attributes received the attention of Islamic scholars, and the controversy raged between them until it reached its point, each trying to prove the correctness of his doctrine and the corruption of others' doctrines.
The issue of the divine attributes of Ibn Hajar al-Haytami received great attention, through which he tried to determine the doctrine of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah, especially the Ash'aris.
