ورغم تعدد موضوعات شعر أمل دنقل،تظل هناک مجموعة من الصور تستحوذ على اهتمامها تلح عليها وتکررها،بحيث تصبح لوازم في شعره، ويکون من شأن هذه الصور المسيطرة، أن تکشف عن رؤية الشاعر وعالمه، فـ"حرکة الصور الشاملة تستطيع أن تعبر عن فلسفة الکاتب وتطلعاته الشخصية فالصورة المجازية –في هذه الحالة –تتجاوز وظيفتها ودلالتها الجزئية داخل القصيدة،لتغدو بالنسبة للشاعر في شعره أدوات أساسية في إدراک العالم وتأمل علاقاته المختلفة ،حيث تکتسب بالتکرار دلالة أو دلالات رمزية في السياقات المختلفة ؛فـــــــ " الصورة يمکن استثارتها مرة على سبيل المجاز،ولکنها إذا عاودت الظهور بإلحاح فإنها تغدو رمزاً .
