أجرى البحث الحالي تحليلاً للأحداث الكلامية لرواية "فياسكو" لتوماس ريك و تحليل اللغة التي استخدمها السياسيون الأمريكيون في تبرير الحرب. يقدم ريك وصفاً شاملاً وكاشفاً للإهمال المقصود من حكومة بوش تجاه الوضع الحقيقي للعراق, كما يعرض توماس ريكس بعض التدابير المعيبة للأمريكيين في العراق من منظور براجماتي تحليلي يساعد في جعل أسلوبه فعالاً من خلال استخدام الأحداث الكلامية مثل الوعد والعرض والطلب والمجاملة والتحذير, و هذا بدوره يؤكد على كما أهمية استخدام الأحداث الكلاميه في التحليل اللغوي.
This research explores speech acts of American policy makers and military officials during the 2003 War on Iraq and their tragic and enduring legacy in the Middle East in Thomas Rick's Fiasco. It aims at analyzing the language employed by American officials in justifying the war. The novel is American military adventure in Iraq. Rick provides a comprehensive and revealing description of the intended carelessness of the Bush government toward Iraq’s real situation from a pragmatic perspective that helps in making his style effective throughout the use of speech acts. Speech acts are actions which are performed by utterances as promise, offer, request, compliment, and warn. These acts specify the communicative intentions of speakers in producing utterances. Thomas Ricks displays some of the defective measures of the American war architects in Iraq and he employs speech acts in his work such as the promises given by the Bush administration to avoid the mistake committed in the Vietnam War.
