"عبد الرحمن الشرقاوي" أحد أهم الكتَّاب متعددي الإسهامات في الثقافة المصرية والإبداع العربي؛ حيث أبدع في مجالات عدة قلَّما جمَع بينها أديب واحد.
فقد كتب الشعر، والقصة، والرواية، والمسرحية الشعرية، والتراجم والسيَر الإسلامية، وكان متفردًا في كلٍّ، إلا أنه كان من أكثر الشعراء الذين كتبوا المسرحية الشعرية في فترة الستينات وما بعدها، وكان رائدًا في هذا المجال؛ حيث إنه أول من رسّخ لشعر التفعيلة في كتابة المسرح، بعد محاولة علي أحمد باكثير بترجمة مسرحية "روميو وجولييت"، ثم بتأليف مسرحية "إخناتون ونفرتيتي".
Abdel Rahman Al-Sharqawi is one of the most important writers with many contributions to Egyptian culture and Arab creativity. He excelled in many fields, rarely combined by any single writer.
He wrote poetry, stories, novels, poetic plays, biographies, and Islamic biographies, and he was unique in all of them. However, he was one of the most poets who wrote poetic plays in the sixties and beyond, and he was a pioneer in this field. As he was the first to establish the iambic poetry in theater writing, after Ali Ahmed Bakathir’s attempt to translate the play “Romeo and Juliet,” and then to write the play “Akhenaten and Nefertiti.”
