A Cognitive Linguistic Analysis of Eugene O’Neill’s Emperor Jones

The goal of this paper is to apply a detailed cognitive linguistic analysis to one of the most important and unique plays to ( Eugene O'Neill's ) : “The Emperor Jones”. It accordingly investigates the different definitions of “cognitive linguistics” and the multiple aspects of it, especially the three primary hypotheses of Croft and Cruse. Given that language constitutes a fundamental aspect of the cognitive system and serves as a paramount instrument for the exchange of ideas and thoughts, the paper uses cognitive linguistic evaluations of O'Neill's style in “The Emperor Jones”, in order to provide a fresh interpretation of Eugene O'Neill's play from a cognitive linguistic perspective. This study indicates how O'Neil used certain symbols and African American vernacular English to give the entire work credibility and effect.


يهدف هذا البحث إلى تطبيق تحليل لغوي إدراكي تفصيلي على إحدى أهم المسرحيات وأكثرها تميزًا (لـ يوجين أونيل): "الإمبراطور جونز". وبناءً عليه، يستقصي البحث التعريفات المختلفة لـ "اللغويات الإدراكية" وجوانبها المتعددة، لا سيما الفرضيات الأساسية الثلاثة ل)كروفت وكروز(؛نظرًا لأن اللغة تشكل جانبًا أساسيًا من النظام المعرفي وتعمل كأداة رئيسية لتبادل الأفكار والتفكير، فإن البحث يستخدم تقييمات لغوية معرفية لأسلوب (أونيل) في "الإمبراطور جونز"، من أجل تقديم تفسير جديد لمسرحية (يوجين أونيل) من منظور لغوي إدراكي. يوضح البحث كيف استخدم (أونيل )رموزًا معينة والإنجليزية العامية الأمريكية الأفريقية لإضفاء المصداقية والتأثير على العمل بأكمله.
