المسرح بشكله الحالي، ومن خلال تحديد تقنياته ، وفنياته، وجمالياته جنس أدبي تعد اليونان موطنه الأول، وقد نشأ مرتبطا بالشعر، ومع ذلك هناك فرق بين الشعر المسرحي ، والمسرح الشعري، فالشعر المسرحي نص كتب شعرا، وغلبت عليه الغنائية،رغم وجود الحوار والصراع الدرامي، أما المسرح الشعري فهو نص كتب شعرا وغلب عليه البناء الدرامي ، وإن وجدت فيه غنائية نادرة وظفت في خدمة الصراع، ونمو الحدث، وكلما أجاد الشاعر في توظيف فنية الشعر(الموسيقى والتصوير) في خدمة الدراما ،
