'A pragmatic Analysis of Presupposition Triggers in Ernest Hemingway’s 'A Farewell to Arms

Abstract
The current study discusses a pragmatic analysis of presupposition triggers in the novel ''A Farewell to Arms'' by Ernest Hemingway. Pragmatics is considered one of the linguistic studies that attracts the writers to learn more about it. This study includes data that comprises samples of some selected excerpts from this novel. The researcher uses the implications of presupposition triggers as a tool to help the writers passing a lot of information to their readers; they are used by the characters to set the background of their negotiation for better and effective communication. The writers use these pragmatic strategies in order to mold the thoughts to their readers.

The selected utterances are full in their pragmatic language as data base to identify and analyze the conversational texts of the novels from the pragmatic perspective. The results of the study show that the methods that characters use various kinds of presupposition triggers to express their intensions.
